I have a basset hound named Buster. I have had Buster for 2 years, and he was 1.5 years old when I got him. He is currently on 25mg of amitriptyline twice daily for separation anxiety and this has lessened his anxiety but has not stopped the howling. He has been on this for 7 weeks. He has had food aggression issues in the past and I do not know how well he does with children. He usually does well with other dogs, but likes to be the alpha dog. I do not know how he does with cats or other animals. He is healthy and just received his annual vaccinations in February. He is a small basset (only 40 lbs), and has been neutered. He needs to be crated when left alone because he will eliminate in the house when nobody is around. He does not have this issue when there are people with him. He does not counter surf or dig in the garbage, nor does he chew or engage in other destructive behaviors. His howling is the quality that is causing the most problems.
